Namibia’s Conservation in Focus: ‘Conservation Pioneers’ reissued

As part of Heritage Week, the Namibia Scientific Society presented the reissued edition of Peter Bridgeford’s book Conservation Pioneers on 16 September. After the first edition sold out within a few months, Kuiseb Publishers revised and republished the work. In addition to content updates, the book now includes an index and features an updated design.


The event was opened by the Chairperson of the Namibia Scientific Society, Prof. Dr. Michael Backes. Special recognition went to Felicity Philander from FirstRand Namibia and Henriette Krohne-Frey from the Namibia Chamber of Environment, whose financial and organizational support made the reissue possible. Tuuda Haitala from the Heritage Week team then highlighted the importance of the book within the context of this year’s program, which focuses on the many facets of Namibia’s heritage.


Author Peter Bridgeford gave guests insight into the book’s creation and shared a few anecdotes about former game rangers. Conservation Pioneers honours the work of over 55 conservationists who, since the early days of Namibia’s protected areas, have played a key role in developing world-class parks. With more than 150 photographs, maps, and illustrations, the book documents the history of conservation in the country and pays tribute to the pioneering achievements of these generations.
